The Story
From Congo to the World
DE LA ROSE — musician, producer, songwriter, visual artist. This is the journey.
There is a boy in Goma who draws everything he sees. Faces, landscapes, the shapes of sound. His teachers call it the "magic hand." He doesn't know yet that this hand will carry him across borders, through loss, through music — to the world.
This is the story of DE LA ROSE.
01
The Magic Hand
Democratic Republic of Congo
The Beginning
DE LA ROSE was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo — a country of staggering beauty and deep complexity, where the Congo River carves through rainforest and the eastern highlands rise toward Rwanda and Uganda.
From the earliest years, two things were clear: he could draw, and he could feel music. Primary School Bora. EP Rutoboko. Institut Tupendane. Each school a new chapter, each chapter a new discovery. His teachers noticed the hand — the way it moved with unusual certainty, capturing what the eye barely registered.
Music came the same way. Not learned so much as recognized — as if it had always been there, waiting to be named.

A New Chapter
Uganda
2012 — Kampala
In 2012, DE LA ROSE arrived in Uganda as a Congolese refugee. The displacement that breaks many people became, for him, a crucible. He was not starting over — he was starting forward.
He founded The Prospects Family Music. A group of young people, many of them refugees, making music together in Kampala. The sound was raw, honest, and alive with the kind of energy that only comes from people who have nothing to lose and everything to say.
In 2013, the band entered the UNHCR World Refugee Day competition — and won. The victory was more than a prize. It was proof. It was a door.

Formation
Fort Portal, Uganda
2013 — St. Leo's College
Winning the UNHCR competition did more than bring recognition — it opened a door to formal education. Through the generosity of an individual sponsor, DE LA ROSE received a school sponsorship that made it possible to enroll at St. Leo's College / Kyegobe in Fort Portal. Senior 1, 2, and 3. Three years in the western highlands of Uganda, in the shadow of the Rwenzori Mountains.
That opportunity did not arrive by chance. The funds were carefully managed by Wendle Trust Uganda, ensuring that the sponsorship was properly administered and that the support reached its purpose — a young man's education — without interruption. It was an act of trust, and it was honored.
Fort Portal is a quiet town, green and cool, far from the noise of Kampala. It was here that something shifted. The music deepened. The drawing continued. And for the first time, there was space — real space — to think about who he was becoming and what he wanted to build.
These were years of formation — not just academic, but artistic and human. The boy from Goma was becoming an artist. And the experience of receiving that chance, of having someone believe in his future enough to invest in it, never left him. It became the foundation of his own commitment to creating opportunities for others.

The World
United States
The Present
The final chapter of the journey — so far — brought DE LA ROSE to the United States. A new continent. A new language. A new industry. And the same relentless creative drive that had carried him from Goma to Kampala to Fort Portal.
In America, DE LA ROSE emerged fully. The music — Afrobeat, Hip-Hop, R&B, Reggae, Swahili — found its production home. Tracks like WASHA, YATAPITA, ROHO, and I LOVE YOU ft. Chid Benz were recorded, released, and heard around the world.
The visual art continued. The foundation was built. And the story — the real story — is still being written.
