A Path for Congo

Where I Come From Is Where I Give Back

A story of roots, responsibility, and the belief that every young person deserves a chance.

There is a place that lives inside DE LA ROSE no matter how far the music travels. A place of red earth and green hills, of rivers wide enough to hold a nation's dreams, of children who sing before they can write and draw before they can read. That place is Congo — and it never left him.

He carries it in every song, every lyric, every melody that moves between languages and continents. And the further the journey has taken him — from Goma to Uganda, from Fort Portal to the United States — the stronger the pull back home has become. Not out of nostalgia. Out of love. Out of responsibility. Out of the deep, unshakeable belief that where you come from is where you owe the most.

The Beginning

A Child Who Dreamed in Color

DE LA ROSE grew up in a world where talent was everywhere and resources were not. He saw it in the children around him — boys and girls with voices that could fill a stadium, hands that could paint a world, minds sharp enough to solve problems no one had yet named. But talent without opportunity is a seed without soil. It grows sideways. It grows inward. Sometimes it stops growing at all.

He was one of the lucky ones. Not because life was easy — it was not — but because somewhere along the way, someone believed in him. A teacher who noticed. A mentor who pushed. A community that held him up when the road got hard. That belief changed everything. And he has never forgotten what it felt like to be seen.

The Journey

From Refugee to Artist to Voice

The path from Congo to the world was not a straight line. It moved through displacement and uncertainty, through refugee settlements and unfamiliar classrooms, through years of building something from almost nothing. But through all of it, music was the constant. Art was the language that crossed every border. And the young people he met along the way — in Uganda, in America, in every city where the music landed — reminded him again and again that the hunger to create, to learn, to become something, is universal.

He watched talented young people fall through the cracks — not because they lacked ability, but because they lacked access. No school fees. No mentor. No one to open the first door. He watched orphans and vulnerable children carry burdens no child should carry, still finding ways to smile, still finding ways to dream. And he made a quiet promise to himself: when the time came, he would come back. Not just in music. In action.

The Commitment

Giving Back Is Not Optional

A Path for Congo is not a title or a label. It is a direction. It is the answer to a question DE LA ROSE has been asking himself for years: what do I owe the place that made me? The answer is everything he can give. School sponsorships for children who have the grades but not the means. Support for orphans and vulnerable young people who need more than sympathy — they need structure, stability, and someone who shows up. Mentorship for young artists, musicians, and thinkers who have the spark but need someone to help them fan it into flame.

Education is the foundation of everything. Not because it is the only path, but because it opens every other path. A child who can read can imagine. A child who can imagine can build. A child who can build can change the world around them — and the world beyond it. DE LA ROSE believes this with everything he has. He has seen what happens when a young person is given the tools to grow. He has seen the transformation. He has lived it.

The Vision

Talent Is Everywhere. Opportunity Should Be Too.

Congo is full of extraordinary young people. Children who draw with whatever they can find. Teenagers who write poetry in notebooks held together with tape. Young musicians who practice on instruments borrowed from neighbors, who rehearse in courtyards and church halls and anywhere the sound can breathe. They are not waiting to be discovered. They are already here. They just need a path.

A Path for Congo is DE LA ROSE's commitment to helping create that path — one young person at a time. Through school sponsorship, through mentorship, through creating spaces where talent is recognized and nurtured and given room to grow. It is personal. It is ongoing. And it is rooted in the simple, powerful truth that the next generation of Congo's artists, leaders, and dreamers deserves every chance to become who they are meant to be.

I did not make it here alone. Someone believed in me. Now it is my turn to believe in them.

— DE LA ROSE

Hope is not passive. It is a choice you make every day — to show up, to invest, to refuse to let talent die in silence. A Path for Congo is that choice, made visible. It is the music reaching back to where it began. It is the artist becoming the mentor. It is the journey completing itself.

Every child who gets to stay in school. Every young artist who finds their voice. Every orphan who discovers they are not forgotten. Every dream that gets a fighting chance. That is what A Path for Congo is about. That is what it has always been about.
